Sarah Stamer
From Dark Skies to Distant Worlds: My Journey in Science
Sarah Stamer is a first-year Ph.D. student in Physics with an Astrophysics Concentration at the University of New Mexico. She graduated from the University of Arizona with bachelor’s degrees in Astronomy and Physics in May 2024, where she was a 2023 Astronaut Scholarship recipient. At the University of Arizona, Sarah did 3.5 years of research studying online astronomy education, combatting science misinformation, and atmospheric retrievals for Venus-like exoplanets. Now, in her first year at UNM, Sarah is doing research analyzing an atmospheric spectrum from JWST, teaching introductory astronomy labs, volunteering as a telescope operator at the campus observatory, and is an officer in the UNM Physics and Astronomy Graduate Student Association and the Women in Physics, Astronomy, and Optics organizations. Sarah enjoys playing percussion, curling, cooking, and watching sports when not in class or working on research.
