What is HUNCH Design & Prototyping Challenge?

Every year, NASA HUNCH (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) challenges high school students around the U.S. to research and engineer prototypes that could help advance space exploration and potentially be sent to the International Space Station (ISS).

The students examine and attempt to solve some challenging aspects of space exploration by designing prototypes such as lunar sample collection tools, zero-gravity mouse food dispensers, automated washing machines, and Lunar rover wheels.

During the critical design review, students shared their projects with guests and NASA experts. This review process provides a platform where the students can present their ideas and get valuable insight from NASA experts.

During this event, all Space Center Houston visitors are invited to cheer on student groups in the finals of the HUNCH Design & Prototyping Challenge!

Access to watch this event is included with general admission for April 28-29, 2026. Members receive free general admission. Not yet a Space Center Houston member? Become a member now and receive discounts on tickets to special events, free general admission and more.
