At our 25th annual Space Exploration Educators Conference Feb. 7-9, 2019 space and science experts shared their inspiring experiences and initiatives with attendees during three engaging keynote presentations.
Day 1 keynote:
Vanessa Wyche, deputy director of NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), discussed JSC’s latest work, the year of Education on Station, and plans for human space exploration.
Day 2 keynote:
Dr. Alan Stern is a planetary scientist, author and the principal investigator of NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. Dr. Stern shared the New Horizons mission and the scientific knowledge gained through the exploration of the icy worlds at the edge of our solar system. Stern also discussed the New Year Flyby of Kuiper Belt object nicknamed Ultima Thule.
Day 3 keynote:
An iconic NASA flight director, Gene Kranz is best known for his leadership in bringing the Apollo 13 crew safely back to Earth and guiding Apollo 11 into history with the first Moon landing. He was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his heroism, leadership and steely resolve. Kranz discussed the courage and determination that inspired the team responsible for the space program’s success, drawing lessons that organizations can use to create an environment for excellence. He left viewers empowered with key takeaways on instilling a can-do mindset and preserving the pioneering spirit of America for future generations.
