NOAA and partners are currently working on the restoration of Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities in the deep reaches of the Northern Gulf of Mexico. Learn about this important and fascinating ecosystem that was impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and the ongoing efforts to restore and protect it.

Sasha Francis Gulf Restoration Education & Outreach Manager at the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation

Sasha Francis has been working in environmental education for 15 years, sharing her passion for protecting wildlife and restoring habitats. After working in marine mammal and bird care for 12 years at accredited aquariums, she moved on to focus on local conservation education and outreach with Galveston Bay Foundation for almost 3 years. She began working for National Marine Sanctuary Foundation in August of last year to contribute to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill restoration work.
