Astronaut Friday: Charles “Pete” Conrad

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing, we are highlighting Apollo astronauts. These legendary space travelers embarked on a journey to the moon which sparked an era of curiosity, discovery and adventure. Their missions captivated the world and paved the way for the future of spaceflight.

Conrad also served as commander for the first crewed Skylab mission and the Gemini XI flight.

During your next visit, stop by Astronaut Gallery to see Pete Conrad’s Apollo 12 suit. It is one of only two spacesuits worn on the lunar surface, that are now on display outside the Smithsonian Institution. If you look close enough, you can even see Moon dust!
