Out-of-this-world opportunities to make a real difference await you at Space Center Houston! Whether it’s on the museum floor or behind the scenes, we have a position to fit your interests.

As a volunteer, you’ll have a positive impact not only on Space Center Houston, but also on the local and global communities we serve. Volunteer in our education programs inspiring the astronauts and engineers of tomorrow, help our staff welcoming guests from around the globe, or play a vital role in both daytime and evening special events.

Learn about the space program and share your knowledge with our guests as they explore our attractions. Volunteer in amazing areas such as Starship Gallery and Astronaut Gallery where hundreds of unique space and science artifacts are housed and Independence Plaza where the high-fidelity space shuttle replica is mounted on top of the historic shuttle carrier aircraft NASA 905.

We are currently seeking volunteers interested in assisting in the following areas:

Education programs
Greeting guests and special visitors
Sharing space program information with guests in the museum

Adult volunteer requirements

Adult volunteers must:

Be 18 years of age
Be enthusiastic and willing to adhere to our policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
Commit to completing 60 volunteer hours per year
Attend an in-person interview
Pay a one-time fee of $50, which helps us defer a portion of the cost of your background check, volunteer shirt, and badge. International background checks may incur additional charges.
Submit to a criminal background check
Attend a volunteer orientation

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Space Center Houston. The application is open and will close on February 9. We look forward to your application.

Summer Teen Volunteer Program

Volunteers in our summer teen volunteer program are focused on supporting our Operations and Education programs. They may serve in one of two different areas:

Guest Experience Team – These volunteers engage guests in the museum with short presentations at exhibits, assist with public programs, and other guest service roles.
Explorer Camps – Teens serve as classroom assistants in camps for children 4-11 years old. They prepare materials, assist with classroom activities, and escort campers throughout the museum.

Summer teen volunteers that meet their commitment will be able to volunteer throughout the fall semester at weekend and evening events.

Teen Volunteer Program Requirements

Teen volunteers must be no less than 13 years of age by May 27, 2025
Teen volunteers may not be older than 17 years of age by May 27, 2025
Must be available to volunteer for 3 full weeks (Monday – Friday, 8 am to 3:30 pm) between May 27 and August 8. Weeks do not need to be consecutive.
Follow all volunteer program and Space Center Houston guidelines
Bring an enthusiastic and positive attitude to each volunteer shift
Attend an in-person volunteer interview on Saturday, April 5
Attend Teen Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, May 17 at Space Center Houston
