Whether it’s on the museum floor or behind the scenes, we have a Space Center Houston volunteer position to fit your interests.

As a volunteer, you’ll have a positive impact not only on Space Center Houston, but also on the local and global communities we serve. Volunteer in our education programs inspiring the astronauts and engineers of tomorrow, help our staff welcoming guests from around the globe, or play a vital role in both daytime and evening special events.

Learn about the space program and share your knowledge with our guests as they explore our attractions. Volunteer in amazing areas such as Starship Gallery and Astronaut Gallery where hundreds of unique space and science artifacts are housed and Independence Plaza where the high-fidelity space shuttle replica is mounted on top of the historic shuttle carrier aircraft NASA 905.

Adult Volunteers

We are currently seeking volunteers interested in assisting in the following areas:

Education programs
Greeting guests and special visitors
Sharing space program information with guests in the museum

Adult volunteer requirements

Adult volunteers must:

Be 18 years of age
Be enthusiastic and willing to adhere to our policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
Commit to completing 60 volunteer hours per year
Attend an in-person interview
Pay a one-time fee of $50, which helps us defer a portion of the cost of your background check, volunteer shirt, and badge. International background checks may incur additional charges.
Submit to a criminal background check

We are currently accepting applications for adult volunteers until March 31, 2026.

Teen Volunteers

Teen Summer Program

Volunteers in our summer teen program are focused on supporting our Operations and Education programs. They may serve in one of two different areas:

Guest Experience Team – These volunteers engage guests in the museum with short presentations at exhibits and other guest service roles.
Explorer Camps – Teens serve as classroom assistants in camps for children 4-11 years old. They prepare meals, assist with classroom activities, and escort campers throughout the museum.

Teen Volunteer Program Requirements

• Teen volunteers must be no less than 14 years of age by May 16, 2026.

• Teen volunteers must not be older than 17 years of age by May 16, 2026.

• Must be available to volunteer for 3 full weeks (Monday – Friday, 8am to 3:30pm) between May 26 to August 7. Weeks do not need to be consecutive.

• Follow all volunteer programs and Space Center Houston guidelines

• Bring an enthusiastic and positive attitude to each volunteer shift

• Attend an in-person volunteer interview on Saturday, April 11

• Attend an in-person orientation on Saturday, May 16
