The module expands the Artemis Gallery, one of the largest exhibitions at Space Center Houston
HOUSTON, TX (October 8, 2024) – The Gateway Habitat, a 14.5-foot in diameter by 21-foot-long, 7,500-pound training mockup, was moved into the Artemis exhibit at Space Center Houston today.
As part of NASA’s Artemis program, which will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon, Gateway Habitat plays a critical role in the path toward the first human missions to Mars and beyond.
Gifted to Space Center Houston by Northrop Grumman, Gateway Habitat is an expansive module that astronauts and engineers used to design living and working spaces for the lunar-orbiting space station Gateway. This mockup helped study ergonomics, communications, lighting, ventilation, living quarters, and potential system failures before going into orbit.
The Gateway Habitat is scheduled to open October 24, 2024. Guests will be able to experience “a day in the life” operations in the habitat, giving them a glimpse of what life orbiting around the Moon could potentially look like.
