Lead like Astronauts

Who says kids get all the fun? At Space Center Houston we believe in inspiring explorers of all ages to pursue their dreams, step out of their comfort zone and dive into the unknown, because that’s where curiosity thrives!

Our second annual Lead Like Astronauts event, on Friday, September 11, invites adults to live out a dream and experience real space exploration training right here in Space City. Just like NASA astronauts, your instincts will be put to the test in water survival training, and you’ll learn to pivot under pressure and lean on your team to face challenges head-on. Along the way, you’ll gain practical leadership skills and a deeper understanding of how high-performing teams succeed in space and on Earth.

Read what our 2025 attendees had to say about this one-of-a-kind experience.

“What’s it like to stay calm while a helicopter simulator sinks around you? Last week, I found out at Space Center Houston’ s Human Performance Accelerator Lab. The HUET experience reinforced the power of preparation, trust, and mission-focused teamwork—the core of an Expeditionary Mindset that astronauts use to navigate uncertainty.

I joined this program to sharpen my leadership skills and deepen my understanding of the aerospace ethos as I transition into the field. I left inspired, energized, and empowered to tackle challenges with confidence, whether on the ground or beyond.

Even more, being surrounded by people from all walks of life who are making an impact across frontiers, and supporting each other along the way, made the experience truly unforgettable. We’re all in this great adventure together!

Thank you to Ann Hernandez, her amazing team, and my fellow participants”
Carlin Hsueh, 2025

“How DO you lead like an astronaut?  Last week, I spent time at Space Center Houston, submerging myself (literally and figuratively) in their Human Performance Accelerator Lab.  The leadership class asks you to think like the high performing and incredibly prepared space teams, but it also reinvigorated my overall mindset.  I was surrounded by people who not only operate at levels we all strive towards, but who were extremely passionate about their research and their missions- all of which ultimately aim to make our world a little bit better.  Thank you, Ann Hernandez, for the adventure and the reminder that there is so much out there for all of us to tackle.  Some of us just to choose to do it here on earth.  I truly enjoyed hearing about everyone’s work and hearing from today’s (and hopefully future!) astronauts.” Betty Woodward, 2025
