Blast Off with NASA: An Unforgettable Night of Exploration and Discovery!
Join us for an extraordinary evening designed to ignite your passion for space exploration. Middle school and high school students are invited to experience a catered dinner, two thrilling hands-on activities tailored to their age group, and a rare opportunity for a 1-hour Q&A session with a NASA astronaut! Bring your burning questions about space, rockets, and life as an astronaut—this is your chance to learn from the best.
Engineer your way to victory! Use recycled materials and a Sphero Bolt Robot to create a payload transportation system capable of collecting samples and transporting them across a challenging Martian terrain. Discover the cutting-edge technologies behind NASA’s Perseverance rover, the robotic explorer currently uncovering the secrets of the Red Planet. Learn about its mission to retrieve Martian samples, scheduled for the late 2020s. Can you overcome the obstacles and deliver the payload?
Design and launch your own foam-insulated model rocket in a thrilling competition to see who can “land” on the Moon and Mars first! Discover how NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) is powering humanity’s return to deep space. Along the way, you’ll learn about trajectory calculations, Newton’s Laws of Motion, and what it takes to launch rockets into orbit. Ready, set, blast off!
Put your coding skills to the test by programming a Sphero RVR robot to navigate a lunar obstacle course! Your mission: identify hydrogen sources across the Moon’s surface while simulating challenges faced by NASA engineers. Explore the technologies behind Perseverance and NASA’s upcoming Lunar Rovers. Problem-solving and precision are key—do you have what it takes to map the Moon?
Get hands-on with the science of rocketry as you build your own Estes Model Rocket! At the end of the night, we’ll launch several rockets into the night sky. These rockets are reusable, and you’ll receive guidance on how to source engines and launch pads for future launches. Take your rocketry knowledge to the next level and experience the thrill of liftoff!
Special Feature: Meet a NASA Astronaut
End the evening with an inspiring 1-hour Q&A session with one of NASA’s elite astronauts. Hear firsthand about their journey to becoming an astronaut, life aboard the International Space Station, and the future of human space exploration. Bring your most curious questions—this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with a space pioneer!
You can substitute a tour for any activity for any of the STEM Workshops.
