Artemis II builds on the success of the uncrewed Artemis I in 2022, and will demonstrate a broad range of capabilities needed on deep space missions. The Artemis II test flight will be NASA’s first mission with crew aboard the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft.
Four astronauts have been selected for NASA’s Artemis II mission: Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialist Christina Koch from NASA, and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
Artemis II will be NASA’s first crewed flight test of the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft around the Moon to verify today’s capabilities for humans to explore deep space and pave the way for long-term exploration and science on the lunar surface.
Meet the four astronauts who will venture around the Moon on Artemis II, the first crewed flight aboard NASA’s human deep space capabilities, paving the way for future lunar surface missions.
The Artemis II mission will launch the crew of four astronauts from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Block 1 configuration of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
No. While launch opportunities for NASA’s Artemis II mission around the Moon were originally slated to open Feb. 6, a decision will not be made on the first date to attempt launch until system checks are complete. As teams evaluate the rocket, spacecraft, ground systems, and crew, they will gain the information necessary to formalize a date in the available windows from Feb. through April. Launch opportunities also depend on orbital mechanics; the Moon must be in just the right position for the mission’s planned trajectory.
If NASA and Artemis Flight Operations postpone the original launch date, a launch attempt will be made the following evening. Launch opportunities for NASA’s Artemis II mission around the Moon open Feb. 6 and continue through April.
Tickets will automatically roll over to the next launch window date and time. Please watch your email for any correspondence from [email protected]. Only one commemorative T-shirt will be issued per ticket.
ASL interpretation will be provided for this event. If you require ADA seating, please email [email protected] for more information. Visit our Accessibility Resources for an overview of all accommodations we have on site at Space Center Houston.
This event is about more than a single moment; it’s about being part of NASA’s First Crewed Artemis Moon Mission, sharing anticipation and marking a milestone in human exploration at the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center.
