Acaba is a veteran astronaut and has logged 306 days in space including STS-119, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2009, including two spacewalks where he helped to build the ISS. In 2012, Acaba flew aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to the space station for Expedition 31/32.
Expedition 54/55 was Vande Hei and Tingle’s first spaceflight, during which they served as flight engineers. Vande Hei is a U.S. Army combat engineer officer and former professor of physics at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Tingle is decorated U.S. Navy aviator and test pilot with 54 combat missions.
