When you make a gift to Space Center Houston, you partner with us to open the doors of creativity, problem-solving and innovation to the minds of thousands of children and adults every year. Your gift – large or small – has a tremendous impact on our mission to inspire all generations through the wonders of space exploration.
Dynamic Educational Programs
Our educational programs play an important role in inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, mathematicians and space explorers. We provide a broad array of programming for kindergarten through 12th-grade students and educators, focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines with age-appropriate activities that introduce practical application of scientific concepts to everyday life.
Our education programs focus on improving educational outcomes for students locally and worldwide. Exploration Academy, developed in collaboration with experts at NASA Johnson Space Center, immerses middle school students and their teachers in space science learning to improve test scores. Girls STEM Academy, jointly sponsored with NASA Johnson Space Center and Microsoft, targets middle school girls to encourage scientific learning and skills development. The Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC) brings teachers from around the world to Houston each year to prepare them to integrate the latest space science into their curricula.
We also rely on donations to our educational mission to extend these opportunities to low income students who otherwise would not be able to visit Space Center Houston. Your donation of as little as $10 to the Space Center Houston Challenge Fund can provide a low income student the experience of a lifetime. Larger donations enable us to partner with schools that qualify as low income under the U.S. Elementary and Secondary Education Act of Title 1 to support the visit of an entire class of students.
Your contribution to Space Center Houston’s education programs is a direct investment in better educational outcomes for students and enhanced preparation for careers in STEM.
Our exhibits connect us to the heroic history of America’s space program and inspire us with the amazing accomplishments taking place right now. We strive to provide our guests with unique, experiential learning opportunities every time they visit.
In addition to preserving over 400 space artifacts – the largest collection in the American Southwest – our exhibits also provide a glimpse into the exciting future, including the voyage into deep space and the journey to Mars. Your gift in support of our exhibits helps us integrate the latest technology to better engage, enlighten and inspire our audiences through the wonders of science and space exploration.
Capital Projects – Independence Plaza presented by Boeing
It’s not too late to be a part of Space Center Houston’s largest and most ambitious exhibit to date. In January 2016, Space Center Houston will open the new international landmark exhibit Independence Plaza, featuring the shuttle replica Independence and the first shuttle carrier aircraft NASA 905. No other exhibit in the world displays a shuttle orbiter mounted in its iconic position atop the 747 shuttle carrier aircraft – the actual aircraft that was used throughout the Space Shuttle Program (1977-2011) to ferry all six shuttles.
This new exhibit pays tribute to Houston’s leading role in human space exploration and science while also serving as a unique educational resource for STEM. Visitors have unprecedented access to the interior of the shuttle replica and NASA 905, where an array of interactive educational exhibits showcase the scientific principles, applied engineering and mathematics that made the historic Space Shuttle Program possible and successful.
