Space Center Houston provides opportunities for students to engage in interactive and hands-on learning while making connections to the wonders of space exploration. For the first time, Space Center Houston is offering an opportunity for FIRST® Robotics Competition coaches, students and parents to camp next to artifacts that have furthered human space exploration while providing hands-on team building activities.

FIRST Robotics Camp-In includes

  • Buffet dinner served at Space Center Houston
  • Welcome briefing in preparation for the night’s activities in the Mission Briefing Center
  • Overnight campsite amongst historic flown space artifacts and national treasures
  • Buffet breakfast served the next morning
  • Second-day general admission ticket to Space Center Houston, which includes private tram tour of NASA Johnson Space Center *NASA Tram Tour requires use of second-day ticket
  • Guest speakers including a NASA astronaut and NASA engineer

What to bring

Sleeping bag, pillow, change of clothes, basic toiletries (No showers are available.)


  • 5 p.m. Check in at Space Center Houston entrance
  • 5:45 p.m. Buffet dinner in Zero-G Diner
  • 6:30 p.m. Welcome show in Mission Briefing Center
  • 6:45-7:15 p.m. Engineering speaker
  • 7:15-7:45 p.m. Astronaut speaker
  • 8-10:45 p.m. Activities throughout the Space Center Houston
  • 10 p.m. Rocket launches in front of Space Center Houston *Rocket launch subject to change due to weather
  • 10:30 p.m. Bring in luggage
  • 10:45 p.m. Set up camp, prepare for bed
  • 11:15 p.m. Lights out

  • 6:50 a.m. Wake up, pack, load gear in vehicles
  • 7:30 a.m. Buffet breakfast in Zero-G Diner
  • 8:15 a.m. Large-screen film “Destination Station” in Space Center Theater
  • 9 a.m. Two options

Option 1

  • Tram tour of NASA Johnson Space Center
  • Return at 10:30 a.m. to explore Space Center Houston
  • Note: Requires use of second-day ticket

Option 2

  • Shopping time in SpaceTrader gift shop
  • Depart for home
  • Allows for use of second-day ticket on another day

Please note that the above schedule is subject to change without notice. During days of high visitation for the center, the large-screen film may be canceled to allow the NASA Tram Tour to depart at 8:15 a.m.

Frequently asked questions

No, this event is designed specifically for FIRST Robotics teams and they must have a team number to register.
No, at least one coach must attend the event with the students.
Yes, there must be a chaperone of the same gender to supervise the students in the activities and sleeping area.
All students associated with your robotics team may attend this event.
Yes, each team will have designated female and male (if applicable) sleep sections.
Participants may bring them only for medical conditions that do not allow them to sleep on the floor, and they must notify us prior to arrival so that we can ensure we can accommodate.
There is not enough room inside the building to accommodate all campers if everyone brought an air mattress, so it is reserved for people with medical conditions only.
There are restrooms inside the building and in the outdoor camping area. There are no showers.
Attendees with dietary restrictions may bring their own food. Absolutely NO cooking will be allowed. Small snacks are acceptable.
After lights-out, the facility will be locked down and monitored by security. If campers need to access their vehicles during the night, they should contact security.
Yes, there will be a full staff of security guards monitoring the building and grounds as well as two Camp-In staff members.
No, the center must allow all daytime visitors to depart Space Center Houston before allowing teams and their materials inside.
