Girls STEM Academy, presented by Phillips 66

Girls STEM Academy is a gender-specific program designed to encourage middle-school girls to apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts and skills through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.

Girls STEM Academy, presented by Phillips 66 with support from Boeing, is part of the center’s Youth STEM Academies.

Participants engage in innovative and creative applications of science content. Students will problem-solve, build confidence in construction, experiment with engineering challenges and learn about robotics, technology and engineering through hands-on activities.

The Girls STEM Academy curriculum is developed to spark interest in STEM careers and support state and national initiatives to improve math and science performance.

The program meets the needs of diverse learners and ultimately addresses the under-representation of women in STEM fields.

The program is a series of five installments from February-May at Space Center Houston. Over 1,800 students benefited from Girls STEM Academy in 2018. In total, 5,560 students have moved through the Girls STEM Pathway, presented by Boeing, since 2021.
