Galileo's Final Frontier is Space Center Houston

On Wednesday July 31st Space Center Houston will unveil its newest addition, the Galileo shuttlecraft from the Original Star Trek series. Free with admission, you can witness the christening and unveiling of the ship as well as attend other events put on by Space Center Houston and Space City Con to commemorate the occasion. Kicking off with the unveiling, the day will be filled with events that include guest appearances from Star Trek Celebrities and a NASA astronaut.

Thanks to the restoration efforts of die-hard Star Trek fan Adam Schneider and his crew, the Galileo is back to the same condition as when it appeared on the show in 1967. Sitting at 22 feet long, 17 feet wide and 8 feet tall, all 3,000lbs of the Galileo will be on permanent display starting Wednesday.

This unique artifact allows us to examine the connection between science fiction and science fact, and more specifically how a series like Star Trek has inspired people to become astronauts and engineers. After the unveiling, join us as we explore this connection with presentations with our celebrities and guest speakers.

Our celebrity guests include Don Marshall, who appeared in Galileo’s debut episode, “Galileo Seven” and NASA astronaut Michael Fincke. Robert Picardo who portrayed the holographic Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager, and Gil Gerard (Captain William Buck Rogers in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) will also be in attendance.

Don’t miss out on the chance to hear what these celebrities have to say about their experiences in science fiction and how science fiction has influenced their lives.
