The purpose of Pi Day Rap Contest is to celebrate Pi Day and enhance student understanding of the irrational number Pi.
Contestants are invited to compose a rap about the history, measurement, use, and infiniteness of the Pi.
The lyrics of the rap must not contain any profanity, vulgarity, or offensive message. All entries must be school appropriate or they will be disqualified.
Contestants may enter as individuals, pairs or groups. The rap must be the contestant’s (and if applicable co-author’s) original work. It is permissible for the writer(s) of the rap to have other students perform his/her lyrics on stage.
A typewritten copy of the author’s original lyrics along with his/her name, school, grade level, and the names of each performer should be submitted and accompanied by a 3-minute performance video.
Performance videos should also be school appropriate. Props are allowed. Both clothing and props should be school appropriate.
Prizes will be determined by lyrics and performance. Educational grants will be awarded to the winning submission. It will include an educational visit to Space Center Houston on Pi Day (March 14, 2014) where students will perform their artistry in front of a live audience.
All submissions must be received by February 1, 2014.
