Outer Space Academy

Space Center Houston’s Starlab, a state of the art planetarium, is an exciting and dynamic tool for learning about astronomy and space exploration. Students will be immersed in a digital recreation of the sky, to study concepts like celestial motions, or even travel through our solar system and beyond! The Starlab can accommodate 20-30 people depending on age groups.

Cost of OSA: Planetarium, Starship Gallery Tour, and The Living Gallery Tour

  • Classes are $ 3.00 per guest.  OSAs have $60/20 student minimum.
  • 1:10 Adult ratio is free; any additional adult is $ 3.00 each.
  • Classes are available for all grade level K-12.

Planetarium Shows

SPACE & TIME TRAVELER (30 minutes) (all ages)


Join our live presenter in the Starlab and take a guided tour of the night sky, the solar system, the galaxy and deep into the observable universe. This unique show is a live and interactive trip through a real-time computer-animated model of the universe. Take a 100 million light-years trip, without leaving your seat.

SUN, EARTH, MOON (30 minutes) (3rd-5th)
Join our live presenter in the Starlab and take a detailed look at our home planet. Students will discover Sun, Earth and Moon relationships in a way like never before. We will also cover reasons for the seasons, Lunar cycles and Solar System objects.

STARS (Movie) (26 minutes) (K-5th)

Every star has a story. Some are as old as time, faint and almost forgotten. Others burn bright and end their lives in powerful explosions. Journey to the furthest reaches of our galaxy and experience both the awesome beauty and destructive power of STARS.
This dramatic program features the voice talent of Mark Hamill.

ASTRONAUT (Movie) (23 minutes) (Recommended ages 5+)

What would it take to become an astronaut? Experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut. Explore the amazing worlds of inner and outer space, from floating around the International Space Station to maneuvering through microscopic regions of the human body.

Allow our tour guide, a retired NASA employee who worked at NASA in the Apollo era, to introduce your students to the wonders of the space program.  Students will see and touch real space crafts and moon rocks, while learning about the history of Manned Space Flight.   Each tour consists of a 15 minute film and one 30 minute guided tour of Starship Gallery.

NBL Tours (Neutral Buoyancy Lab)

Come see astronauts train in a “neutral” environment! Book a guided tour of the largest pool of its kind in the world. Tours are $7 per person with a 20 person minimum. Tours are booked Monday – Friday only and are offered at 9am, 10:30am, 12pm, 1:30pm, and 3pm. Please note that the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory is not on Space Center Houston property and transportation is the responsibility of the group. Groups of more than 50 people may have to split into multiple tours. Meet your guide at the information desk at Space Center Houston 30 minutes before your tour time to allow for drive time. Please call for availability. 281-283-4755.  Approval can take 4-6 weeks.
