Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory

Or, SAIL, as it’s known around here, is the only facility in the Space Shuttle Program where orbiter hardware and flight software come together to create a simulated flight environment. This unique testing protocol contains the complete avionics of a mock-up of a Shuttle and gives you a once-in-a-lifetime look at how crews trained for their shuttle missions. It used to be off-limits to visitors, but this piece of impossible tech is now a stop on the NASA Tram Tour.

Please note that this is an open-air tram tour. Please monitor weather and plan accordingly. The NASA Tram Tour visits working government facilities which are subject to availability. Tours may be rerouted at a moment’s notice.
